This isn't

I was just barely two years old when Almanac came out. It took me many years to come to the book and even more years to read it. I have started it perhaps more times than any other but finished it in its entirety only once. I return to it these days as one might an actual almanac: reading a passage here and there, sometimes directed and sometimes at random, each time finding another fragment of the future refracted in the past. Max's son, but Leah is not his biological mother. He had inherited a small portion of the family's business running slots and vending machines, but does not feel it is enough for him. Sonny negotiates a gun and drug deal with criminals in Mexico. Sonny is also cruel to Leah and his younger brother, and behaves in an overtly sexist and racist manner. A young white woman who was living in San Diego, where she became a drug addict. She falls in love with a bisexual man named David. They have a child, who is later abducted and possibly killed. When Seese sees Lecha on TV, she drives to Tucson to find her.

Bill Blue: Uncle Bill and Max Blue’s brother. He has raised Angelo Blue but refuses to be a part of the crime family. Menardo Pañson: A chubby part-Indian Mexican who hides his ancestry by explaining that his flat nose is a result of a boxing accident. He is a self-made billionaire, the head of Universal Insurance. He insures the wealthiest Mexicans, most of whom are white. He provides exclusive protection, which includes planes and his own private commandos.Calabazas: A Mexican-Indian drug dealer and arms smuggler. He does business with Zeta. He is married to Sarita but is in love with her sister, Liria. From Guatemala and part of Menardo's inner circle. He denies he has ties to any indigenous blood. General J hates communism and is actively strategizing with Menardo to quell rising rebellions within Mexico. He is Menardo's muscle but does not behave as a subordinate to him. Lecha ( LAY-chay), the mother of Ferro, and sister of Zeta. She is a celebrated psychic and keeper of the sacred Lakota text of the almanac. Initially in drug-dependent retirement, she ends up identifying herself with visionary, militant ecologists. Her complicated evolution is one of the novel’s main structures.
